Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: Romans 1:1-4
As we begin in the Epistle of Romans, the Apostle Paul, who is the confirmed author, who was a former and well educated Pharisee, will reveal and explain how Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant and Messianic prophecies. In fact Jesus fulfilled over 300 Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. Without the understanding of Christ and the Holy Spirit, you can’t clear understand or comprehend the Old Testament. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all the Old Testament scriptures (Luke 24:44)
The Apostle Paul could have elevated himself, as an Apostle of Christ, but he identifies himself as a Servant of Jesus Christ, this should be our attitudes and mentalities as Christians. Notice Paul makes a clear early reference to Jesus deity “the gospel of God” which the phrase is typically used the gospel of Jesus Christ. Notice he intentionally interchanged the title of God with Jesus Christ. Paul is setting the tone to explain and for our understanding of who Jesus Christ is based upon the fulfillment of the Old Testament scriptures. As Paul makes a reference “which He had promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures”
Regarding His (Gods) Son, The Apostle Paul makes it’s clear in the beginning that Jesus Christ is The Son of God. Then Paul introduces the incarnation of Christ “born of the seed of David according to the flesh” Remember earlier Paul established Jesus is the Son of God, now becoming flesh, God becoming a man as prophesied throughout the Old Testament scriptures, the Messiah, the seed of David, the King of all Kings, the Lord of all Lords, who will save their people from their sins (Isaiah 53, Daniel 9, Zechariah 12-14)
Once again , the Apostle Paul affirms Jesus Christ is the Son of God but “according to the Spirit of Holiness” The Apostle Paul early introduces the Holy Spirit, who along with the Father and Son as God. As we remember the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in the incarnation of Christ, as the Son of God is conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35)
Jesus Christ confirms His deity and power by “the resurrection of the dead” God becomes flesh (John 1:14) to die for our sins and be raised on the 3rd day, defeating sin and death forever (1 Corinthians 15:3-5) The Apostle Paul even mentions the Holy Spirit raised Jesus Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11)
The Apostle Paul is laying the foundation for the theological teachings of Jesus Christ throughout the epistle of Romans, inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit, to reveal Jesus Christ is Lord and God, Amen!
